On Saturday, September 12, from 11:00 AM–2:00 PM, the Texas Maritime Museum invites explorers of all ages to dive deep into the fascinating and often overlooked history of the Texas Navy. Hear the stories of the people, ships, and surprising events that helped shape the Republic of Texas: 11:30 AM - Brad Chilcote, TNS Zavala Squadron, Texas Navy Association: The Independence: From Revenue Cutter to Captured Loss, 1836–1837 12:45 PM - Chris Kneupper: The First Hero of the Texas Navy .... Was a Civilian! And there’s plenty to explore between presentations! See history that’s never been on display before. Special Texas Navy artifacts from the Museum’s newest acquisitions will be on display for this event only. Sample sailor fare. Try historic-inspired staples including hardtack, grog, chicken fricassee, and more. Learn the ropes. The Coast Guard Auxiliary will be on hand with knot-tying lessons. Whether you’re a lifelong Texas history buff or just curious about the stories that helped forge a nation, Texas Navy Day is your chance to experience Texas history from a whole new perspective.
